Philip-Lorca diCorcia

The exhibition at the Whitechapel featured two aspects of diCorcia's work. Firstly the series Storybook Life featured a collection of images taken over much of his creative working life sequenced in such a way that they invited open-ended narrative interpretation by the viewer. Drawing on a documentary or even snapshot tradition there is, nevertheless, an enigmatic and psychological mood to this work which invites reflection. DiCorcia is careful to acknowledge the fluid condition of meaning and the mutability of truth in his work.
