Part of the Whitechapel Download Project

Session 6 - Reviewing

It was planned that this session would be used to discuss the outcomes of the whole project by using the printouts of the virtual designs and also by looking at the manufactured artifacts. If the project had incorporated a mini-enterprise approach this would have been a moment when we could have used role-playing as design teams or focus groups, to compare and contrast the prototypes and decide which ones could go forward for small batch production.

Working in groups the students reviewed the process they went through to create their work and discussed the features and potential of CAD/CAM.

Reviewing

At a later stage many of the students' designs and were manufactured.

The boomerang shape was the perfect thing to do in ArtCAM. An interesting shape, very technically difficult to do in any other way, but quite beautiful. ArtCAM can deal with that. Of all the students, the one who designed this actually grasped most clearly what was possible from the brief we set and did it.
